The paper-presentation will discuss, in brief, some of the archiving projects that Tata Trusts have supported in the past. Apart from highlighting the best practices adopted by each of these projects, the presentation will focus on the challenges faced by the teams on the ground and the inevitable question of what to archive and what not to, or what to preserve and what not to. More often than not, the historical importance of the archive forms the basis of this decision. While this remains undisputed, what is sometimes omitted from consideration is the active usage of the archive and how that could generate revenue enough for its sustenance. The paper will present some learnings from these projects that could inform future archiving projects.
