India’s print heritage: a celebration and examination of the subcontinent’s place in global book history

This keynote address will celebrate India’s print heritage by tracing the sub-continent’s place in global book history.   It will begin with Indian culture’s association with some of the earliest known uses of print and then follow developments through xylography, typography and lithography.  More emphasis will be given to what happened in South rather than North India, and some of the lesser-known aspects of Chennai’s book history will also be explored.
